Weather happening around the world
A billboard in Phoenix, AZ displays a temperature of 118ºF, this is just one of the places in the U.S. where Americans have been living under extreme heat warnings.
In this new segment of my blog, I am going to be talking about the insane heat waves that have been almost terrorizing our planet this summer. Not only have they been incredibly deadly but the reason they are happening is even more worry-some. The reason I say this is because if you look at all the reasons for this happening the biggest one people are talking about is climate change. A study found that the recent ones that have been terrorizing our planet and hitting the U.S. and Europe have been virtually impossible without climate change. According to an article written by Nathan Rott at NPR news he states that in the U.S. more than 2,000 high-temperature records have been broken in the past 30 days(the article was written on 7/25). Now there is some reason to believe that the El Nino, which is a natural weather pattern is contributing to this. But according to the same NPR article researchers say, "the burning of the fossil fuels is the main reason the heatwaves are so severe." In terms of what makes these heatwaves so deadly there is a ton of information to back this up. According to the World Health Organization, even a small rise in temperatures can lead to an increase in illness and death. According to the article written by NPR, the author states, "Heat waves in Europe have already killed an estimated 61,000 people"(Rott 1) and, "A stifling heat dome in the Pacific Northwest in. 2021 is believed to have killed hundreds." This just shows how truly deadly these heat waves have been.

Weather happening in our Country
This scary graph from Fox Weather shows the current water temperatures in the Ocean and gulf around Southern Florida. One of the prime locations for Hurricane season in the US. Now these ocean temperatures aren't incredibly abnormal for this area. We experience hot temperatures like this sometimes in Florida. This year they have just been abnormally high. According to an article written by Emilee Speck from Fox Weather water temperatures were recorded at 101.1ºF in Manatee Bay, Fl. These soaring marine temperatures are being attributed again to the El Nino that is happening right now but also obviously mostly to Global Warming. Just to show how severe these temperatures are around Florida right now in an article written by Adriana Navarro, a staff writer for Accuweather, the surface level ocean temperatures around Florida and the Keys are 4-6ºF higher than what would be considered normal this time of year. As I stated above one of the worst parts about these soaring marine temperatures is the effect they can have on hurricane season, not how the temperatures can cause the storms to form but how they will cause the storms to intensify. There have been many examples of this happening one of which we saw last year with Hurricane Ian. Ian was a tropical storm when it reached the Cayman Islands 507 miles away from where the storm made landfall as a major category 4 hurricane in Fort Myers. The rapid intensification it went through in the Gulf of Mexico can really only be attributed to one thing, warm water. The scary part about all of this is there isn't anything to get rid of this warm water right now in Florida and also according to the same Accuweather article Oceans are taking up 90% of the excess heat associated with global warming. With global warming and climate change increasingly becoming more and more prevalent and more and more of a problem we can start to expect this more often and stronger and more violent hurricane seasons.
